My mom taught me how to treat others fairly and with respect, and what I see today isn’t that. The way we interact now is filled with so much hate and anger, creating an “us vs. them” mentality. Last I checked, we’re all humans sharing the same country and the same planet.
I’ve never felt this level of worry or witnessed such widespread hate and aggression in my life.
Let me ask a few serious questions:
Why do people dislike blacks so much?
Why do people dislike LGBTQ people so much?
Why do people think other religions are wrong?
Why do people dislike immigrants so much?
I could go on and ask so many more questions but I won’t…for now.
I would appreciate an honest response. I genuinely don’t understand what Black individuals, the LGBTQ community, people of different religions, and immigrants have done to warrant such hateful behavior.
My mom taught me that all people are human and we treat them all with respect. If you don’t already know, I am part of the LGBTQ community and as far as I know, I have never done anything to hurt another person in my life. My mere existence doesn’t make me bad or wrong. AND for the record, God made me this way.
Why would anybody ever choose a life where they would be discriminated against and made to feel wrong for just being? They wouldn’t.
This is the first time in my life that I have felt like I am not supported by my country.
Why is it ok to discriminate against any of the people I have mentioned previously in the article? What makes your way the only way, the right way? Again, a serious question…
AND for those of you on this list and anyone else in a marginalized community, we have to stick together. We can’t wait for things to get better. We need to speak out and let our voices be heard. Silence and complacency are not effective ways to improve the world.
That’s another thing my mom taught me. She taught me to speak out, even if it’s hard, even if you’re alone. That’s what I’m choosing to do.
Thanks Mom.
